I get asked all the time by folks who are considering this business what else they would need to buy or is everything included in the Starscapes® Starbiz Package?
For the most part, all painting instructions, manuals, dvds, and paint supplies are included in the kit. However, there will be some other items you will invariably need to purchase. If I have to barebone it on the equipment, the only thing you would want to get is a ladder, no smaller than a 3-step step ladder. You'll need this if you plan on being able to reach the ceiling to paint your stars otherwise, it would sort of defeat the purpose.
The only thing I can say is that eventually, you'll find limitations with that size ladder when you start doing bigger painting jobs, especially if the ceilings are higher. I really am digging the little giant ladders. I see them at the home shows on display and demonstration and it is definitely a ladder you can grow with. There are other similiar ladder systems available and I have listed one in my store.
You'll also find a list of other very cool and useful things to consider for your painting business. I have bought several tape measurers both in manual style and laser! The laser one listed is invaluable...it makes measuring a room a breeze PLUS you can measure the height of the ceiling in a snap! There are "sonic" type of tape measurers out there but if you want more consistent very close to accurate read out each and every time, you must go with a laser product. With this line of business, your customers like to know pretty exact what the room measurements are, I normally round to the nearest quarter foot...it makes calculations easier too!
Then you get the usual tarps, drop cloths, disposable gloves, painter's rags, and painters tape. That's pretty standard in any painting job. You can get by without buying tarps and drop cloths if you have some old flat bedsheets around.
I also use black plastic sheeting to cover up windows to black out the light and my method of choice in attaching the sheeting is the no holes method of using painter's tape. It works extremely well and you can buy a big roll for whatever size windows you'll encounter. Once I had to block off half a basement with the sheeting as I could not get to the windows, the sheeting worked real well and it was worth the price!
I like the vinyl gloves more than latex and some part of the painting process, you'll be glad to have those with you to use! I'm all for improvising at times but once you start painting more, you'll find that spending alittle bit on quality supplies will not only last quite a bit longer but it will make your job a whole lot easier too. Less frustration is always a good thing!
